Finally NUC has phased out the Mass Communication Degree! This year seven new communication departments are launching.
This information is exciting especially for those with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, or for those desiring a degree in Communication, or better still if you have friends who have something in that degree. The era of Mass Communication as a degree program at universities in Nigeria has officially ended.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has stated that it has abolished Mass Communication and created seven separate degree programs to meet current demand, which will have implications for universities in Nigeria by 2020.
In an interview with Abuja journalists, NUC Executive Secretary Professor Abubakar Rasheed said that Mass Communication has been split among Media Studies, Public Relations Studies, Cinematography, among others.
Recall that communication teachers, practitioners in Nigeria have presented new communication curricula to the National Universities Commission (NUC) with the aim of disconnecting mass communication across seven departments. NUC approved the curriculum.
